Meet Nina! Rooted in the desire for creativity and self-expression, Nina began her artistic pursuits early in life. Her childhood hobbies of photography and creative writing grew into academic pursuits. After freelancing as a photographer and teaching high school English for over a decade, Nina fulfilled a dream of taking a wheel throwing class. Not much time passed before she acquired her first wheel. Her love for playing in the mud pushed her to continue pursuing ceramics through classes, workshops and YouTube videos. She was motivated by clay's therapeutic nature, and its intensity, gratification, predictability, connectivity and inexhaustibility. Nina's hobby evolved into a business where she now teaches, creates and sells pottery.
Our pottery studio is located within a private residence in Saint Charles, Missouri near the corner of Towers Road and Caulks Hill Road. Our fully equipped studio includes six pottery wheels, a slab roller, a large selection of studio glazes, various handbuilding and wheel throwing tools, and a high fire electric kiln.
Nina primarily uses the potter's wheel to make all of our stoneware and porcelain pottery: “My passion to create is simple – build beautifully crafted pots for everyday use. I find elegance and charm in utilitarian vessels formed from mud and transformed by fire. Evidence of the artisan’s hand deepens the beauty of the work and celebrates our humanity. Whether I am making or using pottery, my tactile interaction with the clay or the pot forms a treasured connection that strengthens my reverence for the artform and other artisans. As far as design, I am inspired by nature, lines, texture, patterns and geometric shapes, which create a rhythm, order and quietness in such a noisy world."
Nina Bean Pottery offers a wide range of classes to suit the needs of students at all ages and levels, from introductory classes to intermediate workshops for both handbuilding and wheel throwing. Private lessons for individuals and small groups such family gatherings, scout troops, homeschool groups or friends nights are available upon request.
